UpDated: March 4, 2004
Once Again There is Turmoil in the World of Search. Monday evening,
March 1st 2004, Yahoo! slowly began to unveil their New Paid
Inclusion program that incorporates a Flat Rate per Web Page
Fee AND Pay Per Click Fee. The new service is named "Site
Match".
The News of Yahoo's Paid Inclusion program has sent Search Engine
Marketers into Fury and Rage as those Sites that Paid to
be included into Yahoo Search! through the Inktomi Service will
be dropped on April 15, 2004 if they do not upgrade to the new
service.
In November 2001, Yahoo! began charging an annual fee of $299.00
per year for a Commercial Directory listing. This service is
almost obsolete to date as it was primarily used in an effort
to increase a webpage's ranking on Google. This may be an indication
of the participation in and fate of the new Yahoo! Paid Inclusion.
"Yahoo representative Tim Mayer said at the recent Webmasterworld
PubConference that Yahoos paid inclusion program currently
makes up less than 1% of the Yahoo index." |
Yahoo! Search Announced New Stringent Webpage Design Guidelines
for Inclusion into all Portal Search Engines that include MSN,
Hotbot and Yahoo Search! week of February 15th, 2004. Click
here to Read the Site Match Guidelines provided by Overture.
These Guidelines specifically state that websites using practices
such as Cloaking, Doorway Pages, Keyword Stuffing, Hidden Text
and Exceeding Keyword Count will be Dropped from the Indexes
even if the Sites have Paid For Inclusion.
Inclusion in Yahoo! search can ALSO be achieved naturally
through ORGANIC webpage listings where the webpages have
been properly and professionally optimized following the NEW
Yahoo Search! Guidelines that were released Week of February
15th, 2004. Click
here to Read the Site Match Guidelines provided by Overture.

On March 19, 2003 Yahoo announced the completion of their Acquisition
of Inktomi and on October 7, 2003 Yahoo completed their Acquisition
of Overture. Overture had acquired both Alta Vista and Fast
Search in April of 2003. These acquisitions have made and
provided Yahoo! with mechanisms to finally run their own Search
Engine. Until February 27, 2003 Yahoo relied on, Competitor,
Google's data for Search Technology/Listings.
Yahoo's acquisition of Overture, a popular Pay Per Click bidding
Search Engine, that provides results to: AltaVista, Excite,
Go2Net, InfoSpace, MSN, Yahoo!, Juno, Netzero, Dogpile, Metacrawler,
AlltheWeb, CNN, ESPN & More... has ALSO enabled Yahoo!
to become a Key Player in the world of Paid Inclusion. |
Yahoo launched Yahoo Search! on February 27, 2004, which was
developed on the Inktomi Search platform and utilizes engineering
techniques learned from Overture's, a Yahoo! company, acquirement
of Search Engines Fast Search and Alta Vista. We are calling
it "An Upgrade" of the Inktomi Websearch 9 which was
released in December 2002. We have found the results to be very
relevant for websites that have been Professionally Optimized
following the NEW Yahoo! Search Guidelines related to Inclusion.
